During the unrest in the Baltic states several years ago, the Tribune published a photo of Soviet soldiers in Lithuania packing sporting rifles into crates for shipment to Moscow, making sure the citizens of that country would have no means of resisting Soviet repression. This was easy for them to do because the government had years earlier implemented the plan suggested by John A. Buck in his letter “Check In Guns” (Voice, July 16).

Is Mr. Buck so naive as to believe that the people causing the problem with guns, gang members and drug dealers, would submit to his plan of storing guns at the police station? Perhaps they simply would check them out for a driveby shooting.
