A design that would widen the Cedar Road bridge that crosses Hickory Creek meets federal and state standards and would handle projected traffic, an engineer told the New Lenox Village Board on Tuesday night.
The standards call for a four-lane bridge to be moved west to straighten out the roadway and a higher elevation to withstand a 30-year flood, engineer Byron Danley told the Village Board members, who indicated in earlier meetings that they wanted more details about the proposed bridge.
Danley said factors such as the proximity of the bridge to U.S. Highway 30 and the Metra commuter railroad station were taken into account. Mayor John Nowakowski had said earlier that he had traffic safety concerns about the design of the new span.
