The article referencing Gary L. Crittenden’s appointment as Monsanto Co.’s chief financial officer (Business, Aug. 14) is filled with inaccurate speculation by multiple unnamed sources. Both these comments and the Tribune’s reporting of them are irresponsible.
The facts are these: The merger of American Home Products and Monsanto is a merger of equals, with co-chairmen and equal representation on the board of the new company. Jack Stafford and I will lead this new company together. Every decision that is made affecting this merger is made jointly by us. Any speculation that intimates otherwise is false.
The decision to have Gary Crittenden join Monsanto as chief financial officer is only what it is–the addition of a new CFO, responsible for Monsanto’s financial operations.
