The Lakewood Village Board on Tuesday night selected Trustee Blair Picard to replace Bill Young as village president.

The action came immediately after the board accepted Young’s resignation. Young, who was not at Tuesday’s meeting, said he is quitting because he has accepted a job offer in Pennsylvania, according to village manager Michael Friesen.

Picard will serve the remaining two years of Young’s term.

The board went into a short executive session, after which Picard tendered his resignation as trustee. Trustees then unanimously approved Richard Clark to fill Picard’s seat on the Village Board.

In his letter resignation, Young said he and his family would miss their “many friends and most of all those who helped make the village what it is today.”

In a short acceptance speech, Picard said, “I promise that I will serve you and lead you by walking with you and among you.”

He also said that though not all arguments will prevail, “they must be heard.”
