The American Lung Association of Illinois in Lake County is seeking community volunteers to help teach about lung health to schoolchildren in Lake County.

According to Karl Koop, American Lung Association regional director, respiratory therapists or other health-related people are needed to teach asthma management skills to children in Lake County schools. Volunteers will make presentations to the parents of children who have asthma. In addition, they will work closely with individual schools and community districts by providing in-service training to school personnel and evaluating asthma education intervention.

Koop said volunteers also are needed to present the association’s “Smoke Free–That’s Me” smoking prevention program by conducting classroom and small group workshops with elementary and middle school students in the county. The trained volunteers will present community education programs on smoking prevention and offer insight into the intent and impact of tobacco advertising.

Volunteers should be available during school hours. Call 847-295-5864.
