Billy Larke claims in a Nov. 18 letter: “The argument that handguns don’t kill people, people kill people, is the same as drunk drivers don’t kill people, cars kill people.”

Mr. Larke has the analogy backwards. Just as society blames the perpetrator, not the vehicle, when a drunk driver kills people with a car, so should we blame the criminal, not the firearm, when a thug kills innocent people with a handgun.

Firearms, like motor vehicles, are neither good nor evil, they are simply tools. In the hands of the vast majority of ordinary adult citizens (and the police), guns are very useful, beneficial tools.
