Three thieves made away with a 500-pound safe from a Chinatown restaurant early Sunday, police said.

When a janitor entered Penang restaurant, 2201 S. Wentworth Ave., about 6:30 a.m., he was confronted by three men inside, according to a police spokesman.

The three were armed with handguns. They handcuffed the janitor to a table and removed the safe, the spokesman said.

He said it was not clear what was in the safe.

Wentworth Area detectives were investigating. No arrests had been made Sunday night.
