How sad when a truly special time of year becomes an exercise in rudeness, overspending and even hurting others in a quest for the “perfect” gifts for our families and friends.

Many of us already have the capacity to give “perfect” gifts to those we care about–our time, attention and love–without falling prey to the gross materialism that has befallen Christmas.

Perhaps it is time for us to practice self-control and focus on the simplicity, beauty and true meaning of this season.
