There’s a bug that’s been going around my neighborhood for some time now. It’s not the flu. Rather, it’s an insect, or insects, and they are highly prevalent throughout Mt. Greenwood. They have invaded nearly every residence on my block. The trees on the parkway are also infested by them.

No, they’re not some chic Asian beetle. There are no arborists or entomologists nosing around here. Each year these little buggers do more property damage than tornadoes, hurricanes, lightning and fires combined. They leave misconstrued signs everywhere–fallen branches, uprooted trees and leaning garages.

So why doesn’t the city of Chicago take action here like they did in Ravenswood with the Asian Long-Horned Beetle? Perhaps their policy is: “Hear no termite, see no termite, speak no termite.”
