Regarding David C. Jahntz’s letter “Millenial counts” (Voice, Dec. 19), why would he assume there was no year O? Why would the years go from year 1 B.C. to 1 A.D.? It would be obvious to anyone past the ancient Babylonians (or whoever invented the zero) that 0 comes between -1 and 1.

It also makes no sense that 1 A.D. would start from the birth of Christ–1 A.D. would be his first birthday. If I was born in 1950, I would be 1 in 1951 and I would be 0 in 1950.

The calendar has changed at least once since the birth of Christ–let’s all agree that there is a 0 year.

Everyone who thinks the millennium starts in 2001 should get over it. It makes no sense, and the rest of us will be celebrating the new millennium at 1 second after 12 on Jan. 1, 2000! Join us or stay at home–it doesn’t matter to me.
