Mutual stance: New York Life Insurance Co., one of the nation’s largest life insurers, has decided to stay a mutual insurer, unlike many of its rivals who have decided to convert to stock companies. Chairman Sy Sternberg said directors had voted to keep the company a mutual after considering a range of options, including conversion to a stock company, known as demutualization.
