Park District commissioners have agreed to a study of the merits of adding a section of the Sanctuary Golf Course site to the National Historic Register.

Significant evidence of centuries of Native American habitation, including a burial site, was unearthed during an archeological study and those 19 acres have been set aside for preservation.

Because the golf course is now built and operating, the Park District is in a better position to research the possibilities for a historical education program and potential grants, Park Director William McCollum said.
