Wrapping up negotiations that stretched over the better part of a year, the Woodstock City Council on Tuesday voted to extend an agreement with TCI of Illinois, extending the cable company’s franchise with the city for 10 years.

Woodstock was joined by the City of McHenry and the Village of Johnsburg during the months-long negotiations. McHenry and Johnsburg have yet to accept the agreement although their action will not affect the agreement with Woodstock.

In recommending acceptance of the agreement, City Manager Tim Clifton reported that several service improvements have already been implemented by TCI in response to various customer complaints. In addition, the new agreement spells out tighter performance standards regarding customer service calls.

In what Ald. Jim Young referred to as a “signing bonus,” the city will receive $35,000 from TCI.
