The Lake Zurich Plan Commission unanimously approved a special-use permit Wednesday night for J.V. Johnson to build and operate a gymnastics instruction facility in the Midlothian Court Industrial subdivision on Enterprise Parkway.
Johnson, a Lincolnshire resident, has operated his U.S. Gymnastics Training Facility in Lake Zurich at 785 Oakwood Drive for five years, but said he needs more space to fully develop the talents of his students.
The new building will afford Johnson an additional 3,000 square feet to lay out additional mats and allow more space for tumbling and exercise.
“The space we’re currently in is just maxed out,” Johnson said. “Everything is so cramped, and it’s tough to operate.”
With the Plan Commission’s approval, Johnson’s request for a special-use permit will go before the Village Board on March 22.
