The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, Salt Creek Ballet and 11 other west suburban arts organizations and programs have been awarded grants totaling $22,435 by the Hinsdale Center for the Arts.

The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra received $3,145 to support community outreach programs, including concerts for school children and people with disabilities. The Westmont-based Salt Creek Ballet was awarded $3,150 for the dance program “Peter & the Wolf and More.”

Other grant recipients were the Girl Scouts of DuPage County, who received $2,700 for the “Tunes, Tales & More–Arts on Wheels” program for disadvantaged girls, and North Central College of Naperville, which received $2,250 for its Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp and Concert Series.

Grants also were awarded to the DuPage Children’s Museum in Wheaton, which received $1,600 for its “Tiny Great Performances” shows and educational workshops; Community Support Services Inc. of Brookfield, which received $1,600 for arts programs for children with disabilities; and West Suburban Symphony Society of Hinsdale, which received $1,600 for a symphony performance for 1,200 elementary and middle school students.

The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association of Carol Stream was awarded $1,380 to help fund “Catching Stars,” an arts program for young children with disabilities, and a creative expression training program for parents and teachers.

Eisenhower Junior High School in Darien received $1,350 to create a composer-in-residence program and commission a choral work, and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra in Glen Ellyn received $1,225 toward concert programs at elementary and junior high schools.
