Glenview’s Village Board has authorized the $41.5 million sale of 285 acres at the former Glenview Naval Air Station for development of an 18-hole golf course and 300 single- and multi-family homes. It is the third sale of land at the old base in two months.
The buyers are local firms, Kemper Sports Management of Northbrook and Edward R. James Partners of Glenview. Kemper will develop the golf course on 180 acres.
Edward R. James Partners, one of the James Cos., will build the golf course community on 104 acres.
The sale means that more than half of the 700 acres planned for commercial or residential development at the former air base have been sold.
The first sale of 61 acres for $25.5 million was in February to Kimball Hill Homes of Rolling Meadows, which will build 168 single-family homes.
The second went to the Chicago-based firm Classic Residence by Hyatt, which paid $18.9 million and will build upscale senior housing on 26 acres.
The new Kemper golf course is planned as a public, daily-fee course and will include a golf learning center.
James Partners will build 237 single-family homes, including 55 around the golf course, and 62 multifamily homes. The homes will range from 1,600 to 5,000 square feet with prices ranging from $290,000 to $1 million.
Construction and sales are expected to begin in June.
