A suspect has been charged in the weekend stabbing death of Michael Sasso, 20, of Chicago, a student at Southern Illinois University, authorities said Monday.

The victim was identified as Michael V. Sasso, who was found late Saturday in a house in Herrin, about 15 miles east of Carbondale, where the university is located.

Steven Crutchfield, 30, was picked up by authorities in Marion at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. He has been charged with murder and is being held in the Williamson County Jail, Herrin police said.

Sasso died early Sunday.
