Steger trustees on Monday approved changes in a wage and benefit package that provides a 5 percent cost-of-living increase for non-union municipal employees.

Monday’s action affects about 40 employees, including those working in the village clerk’s office and Public Works Department. The raise is retroactive to May 1.

About 20 police officers and dispatchers, the only employees represented by a union, received their cost-of-living increases May 1.

The revised wage and compensation package for non-union employees comes less than a month after the July 19 Village Board meeting at which trustees approved an $8.2 million budget.
