CHICAGO–I meant to send this in earlier, and hope that you can still use this idea. I hope that it is still possible, at least, to pass this along to the best folks in the CTA so things can be changed.
My idea is from a smart CTA bus driver, whose name I don’t have, regrettably. The idea is to change all the downtown bus stops to the far side of each intersection, rather than the near side.
I ride the LaSalle 156 bus downtown every day. What the bus driver did was simply stop on the far side of the intersection, rather than the closer side. For example, when going southbound, she stopped on the southwest corner of LaSalle and Madison, rather than the northwest corner.
This allowed her to go around those cars trying to turn, and kept her moving more easily. And since the bus keeps moving, so does other traffic.
This could be done for traffic in all directions, and on all streets in the downtown area, from the train stations to the lake. Why not have consistency and help keep traffic moving?
What do you think? It seems that it would be easier and simple for everyone.
