Not all splashy millennium activities are “adults only.”
Gurnee is holding a family New Year’s bash from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Viking Park Dance Hall for adults and kids 3 and up. Called Twistin’ Out of 1999, the event features Hula-Hoop contests, crafts and goodies to take home. The big splash on Friday is at the Schaumburg Park District’s Water Works, with its three water slides and four pools. Billed as a New Year’s Family Fun Night, it will feature games with prizes from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Then, to work off all the holiday treats, families can trek the hills, marshes and woodlands at McDonald Woods at the Lake County Forest Preserves’ Millennium Hike from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Viking Park Dance Hall is at 4374 Grand Ave., Gurnee. Call 847-623-7788 for reservation forms and act soon, as the event usually sells out. Fee for the New Year’s party is $6 for residents, $8 for non-residents.
Water Works Family Aquatics Center is at 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg. Call 847-490-2505. The fee for Family Fun Night is $10 for resident families of up to 4 people (add $2.50 each additional family member), $15 for non-resident families of up to 4 people ($3 each additional family member).
McDonald Woods is on the south side of Grass Lake Road about a mile west of U.S. Hwy. 45, near Lindenhurst. The fee for the Millennium Hike is $3 for Lake County residents, $4 for non-residents.
