Fading away: Moving to essentially end its existence, Ziff-Davis Inc. said it will spin off its ZDNet Group Internet arm into an independent public company and is in talks to sell its events business. After the sale of its operations is completed, the media company, which is based in New York, will be merged into ZDNet. The sale of its ZD Events unit includes Comdex, a well-known sponsor of technology conferences.
