Detroit at Colorado (7 p.m.). The Red Wings, 11-11-4 on the road, look for a win in Denver against the Avalanche, 17-6-3 at home, in a possible preview of a Western Conference playoff.

Friday’s stars

Rookie Jan Hlavac, Rangers, scored a career-high three goals as New York beat Boston 5-2.

Seven seconds

In the first period of a 2-2 tie between Pittsburgh and Edmonton, Martin Straka tied a Penguins record by scoring twice in seven seconds. Nels Stewart of the Montreal Maroons set a record when he scored twice in five seconds on Jan. 3, 1931, and Winnipeg’s Deron Quint matched Stewart on Dec. 15, 1995, against Edmonton.

Snapped

The Los Angeles Kings’ 3-2 victory over Dallas ended their 22-game winless drought against the Stars and also snapped Dallas’ 11-game winning streak against the Stars.

Skating longer

With their 2-2 tie against Pittsburgh, the Edmonton Oilers have gone to overtime an NHL-high 23 times, including five of the last 10. The Oilers are 2-7-14 in overtime.

Quotable

“We played (Thursday) on adrenalin. But that catches up to you and we felt it in the first period tonight. We were sluggish. The Wrights and the Barnabys … they get you going. They’re the kind of players who are yapping the whole game. They’re just doing their job. But they got us into the game. They really made us mad.”

Edmonton center Doug Weight on how the Oilers were able to come back from a two-goal deficit to tie Pittsburgh 2-2 on Friday.
