John King, 72, a former operations manager with Shell Oil, died Saturday, March 11, in his Tinley Park home. Mr. King had been retired from Shell for about 10 years, after a 38-year career working in the company’s operations in Argo, Oak Brook and Des Plaines, said his son Kevin. Mr. King always found ways to blend recreation with his many responsibilities. An avid golfer, he helped found the Shell Golf League for employees. He also coached grade school basketball at St. Linus School in the 1970s when his sons were attending the Oak Lawn school, Kevin King said. “He really enjoyed life and retirement and his friends and family.” Mr. King was born and raised on the South Side. He graduated from Leo High School and earned a history degree from Loyola University before joining Shell. In addition to his son, Mr. King is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Mulcahy; three sons, Patrick, Brian and Shawn; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Lawn Funeral Home, 7732 W. 159th St., Orland Park. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 9300 W. 167th St., Orland Hills.
