A Green Oaks man who was found to have violated sex-offender probation by viewing pornographic Web sites on his computer was sentenced to 4 years in prison this week.
Jay Katz, 37, who was convicted in June of molesting his daughter’s 9-year-old friend during a sleepover, was originally sentenced to 4 years of intense probation and a work-release program in the Lake County Jail.
But in December, prosecutors said Katz violated the terms of his probation when he left jail to do work for his fire-extinguisher business. Assistant State’s Atty. Greg Nikitas said Katz used his computer at work to log on to lewd Web sites.
In Lake County Circuit Court Wednesday, Katz admitted to violating probation and apologized to Judge John Phillips.
Katz pleaded guilty to molesting his daughter’s 9-year-old friend on at least two occasions when the girl spent the night in 1998. Phillips sentenced him July 29 to 30 months work-release and 4 years of probation.
