I was very much interested in an article that appeared on the May 13 front page regarding the rising costs of drugs. An excerpt from the article reads, “The drug firms say the prices of old drugs are not rising.”
I don’t know what drug the drug firms are on, but in 1935 my father had a heart attack. Nitroglycerin tablets were about the only drug that could relieve chest pain. In 1962 I had a heart attack. I paid 85 cents for 100 nitroglycerin pills. Two weeks ago I had a prescription filled for nitroglycerin. I paid $12.35 for 50 pills–a fraction less than 25 cents per pill.
If anyone believes that the price of old drugs has not increased, I can put him or her in touch with a real estate agent who can get that person a marvelous buy on a bridge that links Manhattan Island with the borough of Brooklyn.
