Rose G. Mikkelsen, 81, the wife of a longtime partner in North Shore Food Mart in Lincolnwood, died of a heart attack Monday, June 12, in her Chicago home. Mrs. Mikkelsen was born and raised in Chicago. She first met her husband, Lawrence, when as a teenager she and a group of girls asked him to coach their basketball team. After her fiance received draft papers during World War II, Mrs. Mikkelsen married him and followed him to Camp Lee, near Petersburg, Va. There, she worked as a secretary. At the end of the war, the couple returned to Chicago. After taking time off to raise her son, she began working in a clerical position at Signode, a Glenview packaging and strapping company, and retired in 1984. Her husband, who was a partner in North Shore Food Mart at 6703 N. Cicero Ave. for 30 years, took complete ownership of the market in 1978. He ran the store until 1982 when he retired and sold it. Survivors also include a son, Robert; a brother, Paul Greco and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of All Saints Basilica, 6280 N. Sauganash Ave., Chicago.
