The Toronto Raptors have talked with Lenny Wilkens about their vacant coaching position.
Wilkens, the winningest coach in NBA history, and Raptors General Manager Glen Grunwald met this week and Wilkens said he hopes they talk again soon, the Toronto Sun reported Friday.
Wilkens, 62, resigned as coach of the Atlanta Hawks at the end of the season. He is the only man elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach. He also coached the Seattle SuperSonics to their only NBA title in 1979.
– Alvin Gentry, a former head coach of the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons, apparently has declined an offer to join the Atlanta Hawks’ coaching staff and will instead take an assistant’s job with the San Antonio Spurs, the Spurs said.
– The troubled son of Julius Erving might have wanted to settle a score by trying to buy a gun from an acquaintance before he disappeared, a sheriff said Friday.
Cory Erving has been missing since May 28. The 19-year-old son of the NBA great has a history of drug problems. He was last seen by his family running an errand to buy bread for a cookout.
A $50,000 award is being offered for any information that leads to his return or whereabouts.
The Ervings went public Tuesday with Cory’s disappearance.
