Red-hot Venus Williams kept alive her bid for a fourth straight title Thursday, moving into the semifinals of the Pilot Pen International at New Haven, Conn., by dismissing Swiss left-hander Patty Schnyder 6-4, 6-2 in 61 minutes.

The top-seeded American didn’t look sharp but extended her run to 17 straight match victories.

Fourth seed Anke Huber and fifth seed Amanda Coetzer struggled to reach the quarterfinals

– Michael Chang won twice to advance to the quarterfinals of the Hamlet Cup in Commack, N.Y. He beat Byron Black 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the morning in a match postponed by rain Wednesday, then came back just a few hours later for a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Patrick Rafter.
