Jeff Maggert lost his cushion but not the lead, and now has a chance to become the Buick Challenge’s first wire-to-wire winner in 23 years.

After making his only bogey that cut his lead to one stroke, Maggert responded with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th and had a 3-under-par 69 Saturday for a two-stroke lead over Nick Price in Pine Mountain, Ga.

David Duval, in his first tournament since the British Open, was another stroke back.

Maggert, who started the third round with a five-stroke margin, was at 15-under 201.

This is the eighth time on the PGA Tour he has had at least a share of the 54-hole lead, but he has converted only one into a victory, the 1993 Disney Classic. The guys chasing him–Price and Duval–have 27 victories between them.

– Australia’s Shani Waugh, in her 97th LPGA tournament, matched her career best with a 6-under 66 to take a one-shot lead over defending champion Annika Sorenstam heading into the final round of the New Albany (Ohio) Golf Classic.

– Larry Nelson, aiming for his fourth victory in five starts, shot a 7-under 63 to take a two-shot lead at the Vantage Championship in Clemmons, N.C.

– New Zealand’s Michael Campbell shot a second straight 7-under 65 and held a one-stroke lead after the third round the German Masters in Pulheim.
