Fred G. Escherich Sr., December 15, 1912 to September 30, 2000, late of Oak Lawn, Illinois, passed from this life on September 30, 2000 at Little Flower Manor in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Fred was a life long resident of the Chicago area until he moved east in 1988 to be closer to his daughter, Barbara McGuire and her husband Jim. Fred, a member of the AFL/CIO, worked at U.S. Steel Southworks until his retirement in 1967. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen, nee Linman, his son Fred Jr and daughter-in-law Margaret, nee Hogan, Escherich, both dedicated teachers and eleven brothers and sisters. In addition to his daugther, Barabara, he leaves two grandsons, Kevin G. McGuire of Urbana, Illinois and Jason E. McGuire of Los Angeles, California, a daughter-in-law Deborah, nee Hlousek and great-grandson, Nolan A. McGuire, both of Urbana, a sister, Dorothy Mulkey of Dadeville, Alabama and a brother Alan, of Chicago and many nieces and nephews. A dedicated father and husband who nurtured family and friends, maker of incredible pizza, ingenious in his work with wood and space, a gentle man of quick wit and easy smile, Fred will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. There will be no visitation. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, will be at the convenience of the family. A mass will be celebrated in his memory at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2000 at St. Germaine’s Church, 4240 W. 98th St., Oak Lawn, Illinois. Blake-Lamb Funeral Home Directors.
