Robert Arthur Walker Jr., 66, a Chicago area antiquarian book and print dealer, avid reader and researcher, died Sept. 28. He served in the Intelligence Branch of the United States Army during the Middle East Crisis of 1958. Following his discharge, he worked with the National Security Agency for several years. He was fluent in Arabic, Persian and Polish. He was an honors graduate of Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. He was a life-long friend to Charles M. McCann and a loving friend and mentor to Charity Andersen Widrig and Scott and Sally Andersen. A Memorial Mass is being held at Holy Name Cathoic Cathedral, 735 N. State St., Chicago, on Saturday, October 14, at 9:00 a.m. Also on Saturday, a Memorial celebration will take place at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., Chicago, in the Fellows Lounge, 2nd Floor East, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chicago Public Library Special Collections & Preservation, 400 S. State St., Chicago, IL 60605. Survivors include two children, Roxanne L. Slaughter of Santa Rosa, CA and Robert A. Slaughter of Gilroy, CA; two grandchildren, Amery L. Gingerich and Camille L. Gingerich of Santa Rosa, CA; three sisters, Mary Lou Nicolls of Helena, AL, Robert J. Flinn of Oklahoma City, OK, Susan A. Pike of Richardson, TX, two brothers, William G. Walker of Sudbury, MA and Thomas J. Walker of Alexandria, VA; two aunts, Bernice S. FioRito of Riverside, IL and Jeanette LaCaeyse of Mt. Prospect, IL.
