Jason Arnott scored twice in a four-goal third period for New Jersey and the Devils extended their three-plus-year unbeaten streak against the New York Rangers to 20 games with a 5-2 victory Wednesday night.
Brian Rafalski and Jay Pandolfo also scored in the final period and Martin Brodeur stopped 18 shots as the host Devils won a season-high sixth straight game following a six-game losing streak.
Manny Malhotra and Petr Nedved scored for the Rangers, whose last win against New Jersey was a 3-0 victory on Jan. 12, 1997.
Blues 6, Maple Leafs 5: Jochen Hecht scored in overtime as visiting St. Louis rallied from a five-goal deficit in the third period to beat Toronto.
Alexander Khavanov scored twice for the Blues, including the game-tying goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
Flyers 4, Blue Jackets 3: Mark Recchi scored twice in the third period, including the game-winner with a minute left, for visiting Philadelphia.
The Flyers ended a two-game losing streak and extended Columbus’ string of losses to six in a row.
Red Wings 6, Thrashers 4: Detroit stunned visiting Atlanta with four second-period goals in a span of 3:57.
Detroit’s Doug Brown started it by tying the score at 3-3. At 13:40, Nicklas Lidstrom scored, and at 15:25, Vyacheslav Kozlov did all the work for his eighth goal of the season. Aaron Ward made it 6-3 just 49 seconds later.
Capitals 4, Lightning 1: Jeff Halpern’s short-handed goal broke a second-period tie and Washington won its fourth straight home game.
Adam Oates, Joe Murphy and Chris Simon also scored for the Capitals, who are 4-0-2 in their last six games at MCI Center.
Hurricanes 2, Panthers 1: Bates Battaglia scored on a breakaway with 3:19 left in overtime to lift visiting Carolina over Florida.
Carolina, 6-2-0-1 in its past nine games, outshot Florida 14-3 in the third period and 42-19 overall.
Flames 4, Stars 3: Jason Wiemer ended Ed Belfour’s shutout streak at 219 minutes 9 seconds, then Cory Stillman scored three times in the third period for visiting Calgary.
Stillman’s hat trick, which came in a 5:06 span, wasn’t made official until after the game ended.
Avalanche 2, Coyotes 1: Martin Skoula scored his first goal of the season with 1:12 left and Joe Sakic added a power-play goal as Colorado extended its home unbeaten streak to eight games.
The Avalanche, 7-0-1 over the past eight home games, is also off to its best start in franchise history (17-4-3). The 1994-95 Quebec Nordiques were 16-5-3 after 24 games.
Canadiens 3, Oilers 2: Brian Savage had a goal and an assist and Martin Rucinsky scored the game-winner midway through the third period for visiting Montreal.
Patrice Brisebois also scored for Montreal, which won its second consecutive game.
Brashear charged: Vancouver enforcer Donald Brashear, the victim of a stick attack by Marty McSorley last season, was charged with assaulting a man at his home. No one was seriously hurt and Brashear was not arrested after the confrontation Monday.
DiPietro recalled: Rick DiPietro, the first goalie selected No. 1 in the NHL draft, was recalled from the Wolves for the second time by the New York Islanders.
