Birthday: Aug. 31, 1970.
Birthplace: Brooklyn, N.Y.
Occupation: Recording artist, songwriter and theatrical performer.
Current home: Manhattan.
Marital status: Single.
Working on: I’ll play Cinderella in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre, Jan. 16 through 28; I’ve got a new album, “MYOB,” coming out; and I’m collaborating on a musical and a VH1 movie.
I stay home to watch: I’m a big “Sex and the City” fan and I like to watch reruns of “All in the Family” and “Three’s Company” on Nick at Nite.
The book I’ve been reading: “The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying” by Sogyal Rinpoche. I love reading philosophy and finding that paragraph that you can apply to your life.
Favorite meal: I’m a huge lobster fan. When I go all out, I get a 2-pound lobster, lots of melted butter to dip it in, french fries and a cranberry seltzer with lime.
Favorite performers: Elton John and Barbra Streisand, particularly in “Funny Girl.”
Personal hero: My mother. She’s a self-made woman. She manages me and we learned the business together. Other managers call her for advice. She has done an amazing job of handling my career while protecting my sanity and integrity.
I’d give anything to meet: Liberace. I used to watch him on TV and I was fascinated by his showmanship. He could take a simple piece of music and turn it into an event. I own his glass-and-mirror piano.
The two things I can’t stand: Incompetence and negativity.
If I could change one thing about myself: I’d lighten up. I’m a perfectionist and I overanalyze everything. I make myself crazy.
Most irrational act: I recently found a kitten with all kinds of fleas and medical problems in my dressing room. As a singer, I shouldn’t have touched him. I could have been itching my whole performance. But I picked him up, then got him cleaned up and took him to the vet and kept him.
My most humbling experience: My first time working on Broadway in “Les Miserables.” I had wanted to do it since I was 5.
The three words that best describe me: Resourceful, positive and quirky.
