Samuel DeMuro Sr., born to Italian immigrants on Aug. 22, 1915 in Chicago, IL, passed away on Jan. 10, 2001. His youthful years were filled with many of the hardships that any immigrant family experienced during the Great Depression. The lessons from his childhood instilled in Sam the principles of family, hard work, perserverance, generosity and community. On Dec. 19, 1940, he married the love of his life, Lorry and they began their family of four sons, Samuel Jr., Michael, Eugene and Arthur. Shortly after the conclusion of World War II, Sam founded Mech-Tronics Corporation, a manufacturing company that is still serving the military/defense and aerospace industries. After retiring as President in 1980, Sam established DeMuro Enterprises, Inc., a real estate development company, now operated by his sons. But Sam never lost sight of the lessons froms his youthful years and focused most of his time, talents and treasures on the needs of others. Over the past twenty years, he has continuously devoted himself and his good fortune to serving the social needs of the community by helping the disabled, disadvantaged and disenfranchised, with special emphasis on children and the elderly. During these years, he received many awards for his volunteer work, but held very dearly the Hon Cachina from St. Lukes Medical Centers, the Angel Award” from the Fondation for Senior Living and the Gompers building dedicated in his honor. He is survived by his wife Lorry; sons, Michael, Eugene and Arthur; 11 grandchildren; his brothers, Mike and Armondo and his sister Ida Centanni. Visitation will Friday, January 12, 2001 at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, AZ. Donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 82014, 602-530-6900.
