Washington’s women keep on winning.
By beating Chicago 75-58 Friday in a University Athletic Association contest, Washington University of St. Louis stretched its winning streak to 81 games, seven short of the NCAA record set by UCLA’s men in the 1970s.
Tasha Rodgers had a game-high 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting and Lindsey Merrill added 15 points for Washington (13-0, 4-0).
Washington hasn’t lost since a 15-point setback against Emory on Feb. 15, 1998. The school has won three NCAA Division III championships in a row.
Kealey Meyer led the visiting Maroons (9-3, 1-2) with 15 points.
UCLA had 88 consecutive victories in 1971-1974.
Louisville 99, DePaul 97: Sarah Nord’s three-point play with 2.5 seconds left in overtime lifted the visiting Cardinals (8-7, 3-1) to the Conference USA victory over the Blue Demons (8-6, 2-2).
Lenae Williams, who finished with 38 points, scored six on two three-pointers during a 17-3 run by DePaul in the first 4 minutes 15 seconds of the second half that cut a 39-22 halftime deficit to just three.
Molly Watson’s two free throws for the Blue Demons with :04.4 left in regulation tied the game and sent it into overtime.
Marquette 54, Cincinnati 45: Led by Heidi Bowman and Sarah Zawodny with 12 points each, the host Golden Eagles (6-9, 2-2) held the Bearcats (12-3, 2-2) to 15 first-half points on the way to a Conference USA victory.
