Donald Joseph Price was born on Jan. 22, 1931 to Joseph T. Price and Angeline Arens Price in Clinton, Missouri. He died on Jan. 11, 2001 in Naples, FL. An outstanding student and athlete, Mr. Price was a graduate of Clinton High School. He played basketball for legendary coach Henry Iba while attending Oklahoma A&M State University. Mr. Price graduated from Central Missouri State University where he starred on the varsity basketball team. After graduation he completed two years military service before starting his business career with The Travelers Insurance Company. He attended graduate school at the University of Wichita and received his Charter Life Underwriter Certification from DePaul University. Later, he joined Johnson & Higgins, a private insurance company, in Chicago. He managed sales, new account acquisition and personnel development. He is also remembered by many as a friend and mentor. After 32 years he retired in 1996 as a principal and senior vice-president. A member of The University Club of Chicago for over 30 years, Mr. Price served on the House, Rules and Employee Benefits Committees. For a number of years he was also an active fundraiser for The Latin School of Chicago. Mr. Price was a member of The Board of Directors and former Commodore of The Diamond Lake Yacht Club, Diamond Lake, MI. In recent years he joined Kensington Golf and Country Club, Naples, FL. In retirement he and his wife of 40 years, Kathy, continued to pursue their lifelong interest in world travel and histories of other civilizations. He divided the balance of his time between residences in Naples, FL and Diamond Lake, MI. Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughter, Courtney (Howard) Korey; son, Evan; and granddaughter, Jillian Korey, all of Chicago. Other survivors include his brother, James R. (Fern) Price; sister, Linda R. Price; uncle, Clem E. Arens, all of Clinton, MO; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 1035 N. Dearborn St., Chicago. The funeral will be at 12 noon on Thursday at St. Clement Church, 642 West Deming Place, Chicago.
