Organizers have postponed a union vote scheduled at the San Francisco office of Etown.com because they say management has tainted the outcome by warning employees about joining a union.

Management has been holding “captive audience” meetings with employees and telling them that if they vote for a union, Etown.com would have trouble making contracts with other companies leery of unions, said Erin Tyson Poh, a representative for the Northern California Media Workers Guild.

The vote could have been the first one at an e-commerce company doing business solely on the Internet. Etown provides online information and reviews on consumer electronics products.
