Joy Padgitt, of Winnetka, IL. Died January 19, 2001 in her Winnetka home. She was born and raised in Chicago where she met her husband of 48 years, Don Padgitt. She majored in elementary education at Knox College from where she graduated in 1952. She taught in schools in Galesburg, Oak Park and Park Ridge, Illinois as well as in Columbus, Georgia and Manhattan, Kansas and only gave up teaching to raise her three children, David (Linda) Padgitt of Winnetka, D. Lee (Beth) Padgitt of Northfield and Sarah (Steve Steger) Padgitt of Chicago; in addition to her children, she is survived by her husband Don, a lawyer in Winnetka; and five grandchildren. Joy was a board member of Willowwood Preschool in its formative years, a member of Kenilworth Union Church, The Gads Hill Auxiliary, The Winnetka Weeders, The Winnetka Associates of the Art Institute, The Northshore Illinois Carnation Circle of Pi Beta Phi and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She was active at Skokie Country Club where she participated in golf, tennis and platform tennis. A memorial service will be held for Joy at the Kenilworth Union Church on January 30, 2001 at 3 p.m. Contributions to the Joy Larson Padgitt Scholarship Fund, care of Knox College, 2 E.
