Samuel C. Hamilton, born in Trenton, Missouri, on August 23, 1906, the son of Ross and Rachel, nee Dixon, Hamilton, died in Austin, Texas on January 20, 2001. He graduated from Trenton High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa. He was employed by Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. for 43 years where he became a director and senior vice president of the company. In 1930, Mr. Hamilton married Louise Moen of Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Marcus and Rosene, nee Preus, Moen. The couple have three sons, Sam Jr., Paul and David. Mr. Hamilton received the 1978 Marsden Medal from Iowa State University for outstanding achievement in engineering. He was president of the Iowa State Foundation where he was substantially responsible for the construction of the Center For the Performing Arts, the modern football stadium and the basketball arena. He was honored by Iowa State University in 1998 with its highest accolade for an alumni. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and remained active in alumni matters throughout his life. He received the honorary distinction of “Significant Sig” from the national chapter. He was a member of Rotary International for many years and was active in church matters in the several locations in which his business career led him. Mr. Hamilton’s recreational interests were in golf, in which he became a fine player and in hunting and fly fishing. He traveled throughout the world in pursuit of these interests. Mr. Hamilton is survived by his widow; three sons; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2001, at the Lakeway Ecumenical Church in the Village of Lakeway with Dr. James L. Stoner and Reverend Tom A. Carroll officiating.
