Frances Weary Kovas, 90, longtime Glencoe resident and active in many charitable and civic organizations, died Dec. 17, 2000 at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston. A fifth generation Chicagoan, she and her late husband, John A. Kovas, lived with their two sons in Glencoe for almost 30 years before retiring to Vero Beach, FL in 1978. In 1993 they moved back to residence in the Presbyterian Home in Evanston. A graduate of the Bennett School, she was a longtime board member of the North Avenue Day Nursery, a day care center in Chicago for working mothers unable to afford private day care, in addition to numerous other roles in local charitable and civic organizations. She served as NADN board president during 1962-68. Survivors include her son, Ron, a resident of Atherton, CA; seven grandchildren, Allyson, Ted, Colin, Peter, Charlie, Caroline and Joe; her niece, Jone C. Stevenson; and nephew, John A. Chichester Jr. Burial will be private. A reception will be hosted by the family at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Indian Hill Country Club in Winnetka.
