He in fact wooed his wife with a Japanese love song (later determined to be a children’s nursery rhyme.) Following the war, he finished college and attended Chicago Medical School. His chosen specialty was ophthalmology and he enjoyed a career in both private practice and teaching in Chicago. Burt was a charter member and past president of the Illinois Associan of Ophthalmology. He was a pioneer in the field of continuing education and a prolific lecturer and life long student. Upon retirement, Burt embarked upon a dream of living in the southwest. There he enjoyed golf, gardening and long hikes with his wife and chocolate labrador, Cigar. He was an active member of the New Mexico chapter of Transplant Recipients International Organization and an advocate of organ donation. Burt touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be at the family home in Santa Fe on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, Liver Disease and Transplantation Department, care of Dr. Jorge Rakela, 13400 E.
