You don’t even have to be gay to be rejected by the Boy Scouts of America.
All you have to do is believe that all of us are created equal.
The Boy Scouts have rejected the charters from eight public schools in Oak Park, preventing 400 boys from participating in Scouting.
Not because of a gay leader, not even because of a gay Scout, but because parents stated in a cover letter to the Scouts that they believe discrimination is wrong and that it will not be accepted in our town.
How can any public school organization in America possibly sponsor a Boy Scout troop?
Does the BSA think people choose to be gay?
What exactly is its definition of clean and moral?
Will the Boy Scouts take responsibility for the shame a struggling teenager is made to feel as he learns this major community organization calls him an inferior human being?
Our children are not tokens in an adult debate.
This fight is for our children.
They need to know that bigotry and discrimination are wrong.
Some say we should fight from within, but in the meantime, how can one wear that uniform for even one more day?
