James “Jim” P. Johnson, 85, of Evanston, died Sunday at the Westminster Presbyterian Home. Mr. Johnson was born and raised in Waupaca, WI and graduated from Lawrence University. He and Ruth Cook were married in 1942. During WW II, Mr. Johnson served as a Lt. Commander aboard the USS Marblehead. He was employed as a Vice President at Continental Bank, where his career spanned 41 years. Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Evanston and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was an avid golfer and an active volunteer following his retirement. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Ruth “Cookie”; daughter Shelley (Ron) Holt of Downers Grove; son J. Peter (Shelley) of North Bend, OR; grandchildren Kelsey and Jason Holt and Matthew Johnson; and sister Katherine Buttles, of Milwaukee, WI. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Feb. 2, 3 p.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Home, 3131 Simpson St., Evanston.
