A Palatine woman who was charged with aggravated drunken driving and was jailed last month after she appeared in court while allegedly intoxicated, pleaded guilty Tuesday.
Jocelyn M. Burrell, 33, of the 400 block of West Palatine Road was sentenced to 6 months in jail followed by 2 years of felony probation, prosecutors said.
Lake County Circuit Judge James Booras also ordered Burrell to participate in a work-release program and be evaluated for alcohol and drug addiction while she serves her jail sentence.
According to Assistant State’s Atty. Torrie Newsome, Burrell was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 27 in Lincolnshire after she was involved in an accident with three other cars.
No one was seriously injured, but the investigating officer noticed that Burrell’s speech was slurred, her eyes were bloodshot and glassy, her balance was unstable, and she smelled of alcohol, according to Newsome.
A test indicated that her blood-alcohol content was about0.28 percent, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, Newsome said.
Burrell was released from the Lake County Jail in December and was ordered to remain sober until her pending case was disposed of. But in January, Burrell appeared in court smelling of alcohol.
Booras ordered that she submit to a Breathalyzer test, which indicated a blood-alcohol content of 0.29 percent, Newsome said. Burrell was jailed.
