A Friday afternoon scuffle in the Loop that Chicago police initially said involved a sex assault that led to the stabbing of two men was less serious than previously reported and resulted in only one injury, Chicago police now say.

Police originally reported that two men were hurt near the Chicago Theatre. However, in updates late Friday, police confirmed that only one of the men, a 25-year-old, had been hurt in the the incident.

Two stabbed after downtown sexual assault prompts fight: police

The earlier report from police stated a 24-year-old woman was walking in the 200 block of North State Street when she was sexually assaulted by a 31-year-old man around 4 p.m. That man then got into a fight with the 25-year-old man before a second woman appeared and cut both men, the earlier report stated.

In updated reports, police stated the 31-year-old man instead “made unwanted contact” with the victim, which set off the quarrel between the two men. That’s when a 36-year-old woman pulled a sharp object and injured only the 25-year-old man, police said in the update.

The 25-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a laceration to his left wrist. The 36-year-old woman was hospitalized for observation.

Police recovered a knife at the scene. Belmont Area detectives were investigating.
