Diving into the river around Pittsburgh’s new PNC Park for home-run balls can be hazardous to your health.

That’s the word from the Coast Guard to fans trying to collect baseballs this season from the Allegheny River, which lies 443 from home plate along the right-field line.

“We’re going to discourage, as we do anytime, folks getting out of their boat and getting into the river,” Pittsburgh Coast Guard Cmdr. Steve Hudson said. “It’s a dangerous environment. There are currents. There are large vessels in this area.”
