Marilyn L. Hume, 72, a longtime resident of Elmhurst who worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Villa Park, died Friday, March 30, in Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood. Mrs. Hume was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. “She was also a volunteer at AARP, where she helped people prepare their taxes,” said her son, Michael. “And she liked to read.” A commitment to community was a thread that ran through Mrs. Hume’s life, a commitment that took her to the Darien library, where she worked as a volunteer and to Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, where she was a longtime member. Other survivors include another son, Steven; two daughters, Dorothy Bahlmann and Christine Chateauneuf; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 S. York St., Elmhurst, followed by services at 11 a.m. in Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 Spring Rd., Elmhurst.
