It is likely Aurora will launch a new method of garbage and recycling pickup in July, officials said.

Under a proposed contract with Browning Ferris Industries, owners of residential structures with four or less units would pay a monthly garbage-hauling fee of $10.50, which would be included on water bills. BFI would haul one 64-gallon garbage container and unlimited recycling materials.

A $1.50 sticker would be needed for each additional 32-gallon bag or container, yard-waste bag, leaf bag outside of free-pickup season, white good or brush larger than the allowed diameter.

Senior citizens who qualify for the Homestead Exemption on real estate tax bills could opt for a 32-gallon container at a monthly cost of $5.25.

The cost for the service would remain the same for two years of the five-year contract. In the last three years, prices could not increase more than 3 percent.

Details of the proposed contract were presented Wednesday to the Finance Committee.

A full City Council vote is expected May 8, he said. Under the current Waste Management Inc. contract, which is for a volume-based collection program, a $1.20 sticker must be attached to each 32-gallon bag or container of trash, yard-waste bag, white good or bundled brush. But Waste Management’s contract runs until the end of June, and the company sought an extension with a $2.32 sticker price.
