LaTanya Haggerty should not be dead, and I do not begrudge her family the substantial compensation they are receiving for her death. But there should be several lessons taken away from this tragedy:

– The police need to be better trained to handle high-pressure situations.

– Miss Haggerty would still be alive if the driver had not attempted to flee, which put the pursuing officers in a much more aggressive and defensive frame of mind.

– If you are an innocent passenger in a vehicle that has just been stopped by the police after a high-speed chase, do whatever the police officers tell you to do as soon as they tell you.
