A Berwyn man who allegedly drove onto a sidewalk and ran over a teen in a gang-related dispute in the Little Village neighborhood was charged with attempted murder Monday.

Bond was set at $300,000 for Carlos DeSantiago, 20, of the 1900 block of South Harlem Avenue, said Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Patti Simone.

The victim, Eduardo Plomero, 17, of the 2700 block of South Karlov Avenue, was in critical condition Monday at Mt. Sinai Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said Plomero was standing with friends in the 3700 block of West 26th Street about 2 a.m. Sunday when DeSantiago drove by in a minivan. Words and gang signals were exchanged, police spokesman Thomas Donegan said.

Police said DeSantiago drove onto the sidewalk, targeting Plomero and two others. The others escaped without injury.

DeSantiago crashed the van and ran away, Donegan said.
